In mid-February, a purported Mac virus hit the streets. Well, Macworld posted the poop on what you need to know about this so-called virus. Read up and remember: Do Not Panic. You need do a lot of things wrong before your Mac can be infected with anything like this.

One thing you should do if you use Safari as your browser is to turn off the feature that automatically un-stuffs (or unzips) programs after you download them. Go to the menu item Safari->Preferences and click on the General tab. Make sure that the box next to the “Open safe files after downloading” is not checked. This turns off a feature in Safari that automatically opens (and sometimes installs) programs on your computer. With this off, there is little chance that a malicious program will get installed onto you computer without your knowledge.
